Reading, Berkshire United Kingdom (PressExposure) April 26, 2011 -- It was a beautiful sunny weekend as the 2 round of the British Thunderbikes championship rolled into Cadwell Park, ready to battle again over 4 more races.
James and Team AfterDark were still on a high from Snetterton and really looking forward to this round. Cadwell Park is one of James favourite circuits and he was confident heading into practice after a good Fridays testing.
Practice was steady and everyone was being cautious, with the track temperature down and a bit of moisture still on the surface James did not want any early issues to deal with, but still managed to set the 3rd fasts time with a 1:43:9 on his 4th lap out of 5.
By the time race 1 lined up on the grid the sun was shining down, With James 4th on the grid expectations were high and the race did not disappoint. James got off to a good start and over lap 1 battled up to 3rd then set about 2nd, on lap 4 took 2nd and set about gapping the following group. But on lap 7 made a small mistake going into the chicane and fell back to 3rd where James stayed for his first podium of the year.
Race 2 saw James and his Louigi Moto 749 line up on p3 of the grid on the front row, so this time James had no one in his line of vision to the first corner. The lights went out James got the drop and moved into 2nd place in the first corner chasing the series leader hard. On lap 2 James slip back to 4th, due to the rear shock absorber starting to fade, hence a battle for the 3rd spot ensued with bikes 87 and 88. For the next 6 laps all 3 riders battled hard and as the finish flag waved James had secured 3rd place.
Sunday, once again saw amazing sun and along with the flowing curves of the parkland Cadwell Park circuit; everyone was ready for more stunning racing. James looked good in his custom leather from Cougar and his new 2011 LS2 helmet and with the Louigi Moto Ducati 749 looking amazing in the sun thanks to the stunning paint from Lamppod, Team AfterDark were aiming for more successes today.
As the 3rd race of the weekend started James set out to gain another podium, with another hard battle for 2nd between James and 3 other riders took place over 9 laps with positions being swapped every lap. James was in 2nd with 1 lap to go after setting his fastest lap of the race. But he had to go defensive and was overtaken with only corners to go and finished 3rd 0.242 seconds behind 2nd.
Going into the last race Team AfterDark made a few small changes and James prepared for one last battle.
Starting 3rd on the grid James got a flying start and led into the first turn but dropped back to 2nd before the end of the first lap. He held 2nd till lap three and that is when the battle began. Over laps 3, 4 and 5 the battle for 2nd was hot with all 3 riders pushing for the same position. James secured 2nd on lap 7 and pulled a small gap, and upped the pace once again going into the last lap setting his best time of the weekend on this lap and as the race finished James had over a second between him and third. James and Team AfterDark had achieved a 3rd overall from a hard fought weekend and had gained a tremendous amount of priceless knowledge from the weekend. They will be making some technical changes before Pembery at the end of April and are looking for more podium finishes.
