Chicago, IL (PressExposure) August 10, 2007 -- IM And Internet Filtering Services Prevent Younger Employees From Wasting Time At Work
Businesses, prepare yourselves and your internet filtering services -- the Internet generation has entered the work force. This generation uses instant messenger (IM) applications as easily as phones, opening the door for time-wasting possibilities at work and creating a need for instant message security. IT departments are turning to instant message security and internet filtering services to ensure employee productivity.
As tech-savvy employees install IM applications, companies are faced with a challenge much greater than simple web surfing: instant message security. "So many new-college hires these days are tech-savvy," says James Tanner, founder of Comvigo. Comvigo publishes IM Lock, an instant message security application. "They can easily install IM applications at work and carry on conversations while looking like they're working, affecting productivity. Generic Internet filtering services won't necessarily block these."
Internet Filtering Services Face New Challenges With Younger Generation This threat is notably greater with younger employees who have grown up using IM as a regular form of communication. Its fast and casual nature also allows it to be invasive during work time. IT departments may already use Internet filtering services, but the IM market presents plenty of new challenges outside of Google and AOL, including GAIM and Trillian; a comprehensive instant message security system is required to ensure that businesses prevent revenue bleeding.
"The numbers add up -- small businesses can lose hundreds of thousands of dollars while corporations can lose millions easily every year," says Comvigo's Tanner. "IM Lock's blocking features are a simple, effective way for instant message security, and it has a number of similar features as Internet filtering services."
In a world where being computer-literate is as common as making a phone call, business instant message security is becoming a necessity, not a luxury, of the new millennium. Applications such as IM Lock may soon be as standard for IT departments as virus scanning and spam blocking.
