Miami, FL (PressExposure) March 11, 2011 -- The Continental Group (TCG) in conjunction with Main Street Vero Beach and The City of Vero Beach present "The 2011 Hibiscus Festival Evening Street Party" on Saturday, April 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Historic Downtown Vero Beach, benefiting Main Street Vero Beach & Vero Heritage, Inc.
Starting at 4 p. m. cocktails and food will be available on 21st street in Historic Downtown Vero Beach while festival patrons will be able to view themselves walking or dancing through Main Street on a large JumboTron. Enjoy live tunes by Other People's Music (OPM) with artists from all genres of music performing the top hits of the '50s to today's top hits.
TCG will be hosting a private reception for its clients in front of its ideally-located Main Street offices - offering residents appetizers and cocktails, as well as a birds-eye view of the concert and festivities.
"The Continental Group is excited to be a part of The 2011 Hibiscus Festival Evening Street Party to benefit two excellent non-profit organizations: Main Street and Vero Heritage, Inc," said Nikki Monahan, Vice President of Operations for TCG Vero Beach. "This city-wide event will raise funds for these organizations whose focus is to invite back local residents to the downtown area to live, work, shop and play."
A highlight of the evening street party will be "Dancin 'Through the Decades " variety show performed by the award winning Solid Gold Band. Their superb Las Vegas style show will entertain audiences through an interactive performance scanning time from sock hops to hip hop and will feature costumes, dancers, a Vegas impersonator and an authentic Motown Revue. The 14th Avenue Dance Studio professionals will also make special appearances in the show.
The evening street party is part of the annual historic Hibiscus Festival that began in 1953. The festival this year continues favorite events such as the 5K race, the Miss Hibiscus Pageant, the annual pancake breakfast, art show, marketplace booths, farmers' market, live entertainment, historical exhibits, shopping cart parade, Rotary Club's Salute to Youth, and children's activities. New events that will be introduced at this year's festival include the Eastern-bonnet dog parade, the exhibition by the Old Vero Age Site Committee and the Chinese auction. The admission wristband is $2.
About the Hibiscus Festival:
The Hibiscus Festival began in 1953 as a 2-4 weeklong, city-wide event that included fashion shows, Lady Teas and Bridge Games, shopping events and softball games.
The festival celebrated with dancing and the Miss Hibiscus Pageant during late Spring every year.
In 1963, the Chairman of the committee decided to retire which led to the cancellation of the festival, leaving behind the Miss Hibiscus Pageant to stand alone for one more year. The Hibiscus Festival was revived in 2004 and expanded to additional space in the downtown sector and today draws over 15,000 people.
