Port Vila, Vanuatu (PressExposure) August 03, 2009 -- Cardiologist and Michael Jackson's personal physician, Dr Conrad Murray has an easy winning smile, whom most people would feel they could trust. The kind of family doctor you would feel confident with.
When authorities raided the offices of Dr Murray, however, the investigation into the events surrounding Michael Jackson's death, took a dramatic turn. The King of Pop's death would seem to be escalating into a manslaughter case.
'Excess treatment or prescribing', 'professional conduct', 'prescribing to an addict', 'manslaughter' and 'excessive prescribing', are on the police warrant as potential charges. There is still some doubt however, as to whether Murray will be faced with manslaughter charges, though he has admitted to administering the powerful anesthetic profol to the idol of thousands. Manslaughter demands proof that there was a reckless action leading to death, or grievous bodily harm.
The D.A's office has not yet begun its formal investigation and several of the toxicology results are still not available.
The drug profol often suppresses breathing and lowers the heart rate and blood pressure. It must be administered by a trained expert who is closely monitoring the patient. It is a procedure that is normally for use in a hospital operating theater.
Dr Murray's cherry bright smiling face hides a very different kind of person than what is first evident. Like his boss, Jackson, who paid Murray a monthly salary of $150,000, both men were drowning in debt. Murray is a long time debt evader and on the brink of losing his expensive Las Vegas home.
Following Jackson's death, a number of court judgements and law suits against Murray have come to light, including tax liens filed against him between 1993 and 2003. There are non-payments of child support, as well as an outstanding student loan of $71,000 from Murrayâs medical school days.
Murray was employed by Jackson in 2006 after attending a minor undisclosed illness of one of Jacksonâs children. Murray was suspended from a Houston hospital for allegedly not completing medical records in a timely fashion.
Murray was charged in 1994with domestic violence. Although the case went to trial Murray was ultimately acquitted.
