London, United Kingdom (PressExposure) July 14, 2008 -- Lacap made an announcement today that counselling services provision for the Group Therapy Section had been enhanced.
Donald Kirkpatrick is the Clinical Director for this London based Counselling Practice.
"Group Therapy has been widely used and has been a standard treatment option for over 50 years. In studies comparing group psychotherapy to individual therapy, group therapy has been shown to be as effective and sometimes even more effective. But provision in the London area is scanty enough in the NHS, and almost unknown in private counselling services. Here at Lacap we believe that this treatment option should be promoted as a first choice option. This also means raising awareness of it with the public. People associate 'what is therapy?' with 'what is individual counselling?" - but a one to one therapy is not always the most suitable intervention.
Lacap is pleased to announce that Dr. Stephen Burton has joined the group practice as a Group Analytic Psychotherapist. Dr Stephen Burton trained at Goldsmiths College in London, and holds the Master of Arts in Group and Intercultural Therapy, together with the Postgraduate Diploma in Group Psychotherapy. Dr. Stephen Burton is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and is a Consultant in Old Age Liaison Psychiatry.
Dr. Stephen Burton will be offering two therapy groups in the autumn of 2009. Each group will will have an open membership, and in principal be open-ended.
Dr. Burton writes, "With the guidance of a psychotherapist, a group can offer you, in complete confidentiality, a means of connecting with others and exploring relationships with people you do not know, helping you gain an understanding of what you and they are feeling. This in turn, helps you understand your own life better and opens up the possibility of change. The therapist and group together support you but also challenge you to make long-term changes in the way you experience others and behave towards others. A group can help you change the way you feel about yourself."
Further details of these groups, and details of how to join have been posted at this link: http://www.london-counselling-psychotherapy.co.uk/Groups/Group.Therapy.htm
Donald Kirkpatrick also announced that Lacap was supporting its existing group therapy work with the opening of a further clinical office in Leyden Street, London E1, close to the main consulting rooms in Central London.
"The new offices are about providing dedicated and sustained space for Group Therapy work. Environment isn't everything! But having rooms modelled to promote security, sound-proofed for confidentiality, and comfortably furnished does mean that the group can concentrate on getting work done. We anticipate that with Stephen joining the existing team of three group analyst's, LACAP can now adequately address the demand for counselling service provision in this area."
