Norwich, United Kingdom (PressExposure) September 03, 2009 -- Fifty-nine year old Twiggy has returned to Olay after twenty years to become the face of their anti-ageing moisturiser Definity, and forty-eight year old Tilda Swinton has recently modelled for Pringle of Scotland. This is made more significant by the fact that she has replaced young models Daisy Lowe and Pixie Geldof in the campaign.
It has also been announced that Christy Turlington is acting as the new face of Yves Saint Laurentâs autumn/winter 2009/10 collection, as well as being the face of Bally for a recent campaign. Christy was one of the original âsupersâ along with supermodels Linda Evangelista, Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell.
Does this influx of models returning to fashion mark a change in direction for the modelling industry?
Damian OâConnor, Managing Director of modelling agency Models Direct [LINK: [http://www.modelsdirect.com]], has noticed an increase in work available for older models and says: âThereâs more and more work for models out their today. Sometimes a client or art director will want to appeal to a certain demographic, for example in an advertising campaign, so they ask for an older model.â
The selection of more mature, well known models to advertise products can be hugely successful. Madonnaâs recent endorsement of Louis Vuitton caused a significant impact on sales of the designer bags she was advertising. People are obviously responding positively towards the return of these iconic women to the industry.
It just goes to show that you do not necessarily need to be young to be a successful model. Models Direct takes on models of any age, and often has clients looking for more mature models.
OâConnor says: âClients are sometimes simply trying to portray a mix of people in the photo shoot, both young and old.â
Men and women who would like to try modelling [http://www.modelsdirect.com/locations/worldwide.html] shouldnât be deterred by thinking they are too old. You may not be suitable for the catwalk but there are still plenty of modelling opportunities out there!
