The Two Things Marrying Couples Should Decide When Buying Wedding Rings

Essex, Florida (PressExposure) July 20, 2009 -- Choosing your wedding ring requires a lot of time and a lot of effort. This is because wedding rings are the kind of jewelry that you and your partner will wear for the rest of your life (or until an ending of the marriage comes). Careful planning and decision are the keys to a successful wedding ring that could last years. Two of the most important features that couples look for in a wedding ring are the design and the material used.

Designs

Deciding on the design of the wedding ring is very important. There are times in which couples would replace their wedding rings because they didn't like the designs. This is because couples are so much in a hurry to prepare for their wedding that they didn't put enough time in deciding on the designs of their wedding rings, not until they've noticed that they didn't like the designs after all.

Materials

Aside from the traditional gold, other materials have also been introduced such as titanium rings and the popular tungsten carbide ring. Deciding on the kind of material is very important aside from deciding on the design. This is because the lifespan of a wedding ring depends greatly on the kind of material used for it. It's also important to determine the material because some people may be allergic to a specific metal, especially with gold. Here are some of the most popular materials used for wedding rings today.

* Platinum: Because of its inertness and shine, platinum found its use in jewelry, usually as a 90-95% alloy. Platinum wedding rings usually possess a silvery-white luster which is one of the many reasons for its popularity. The main drawback with platinum is its cost. Platinum wedding rings are considered the most expensive types of wedding rings. Also, platinum is said to lose its whiteness after years of wear (this can be restored by re-applying a white alloy such as rhodium or palladium).

* White Gold: Another popular type of wedding ring, white gold wedding rings are the perfect alternatives to expensive platinum. White gold wedding rings also possess the kind of silvery-white features found with platinum wedding rings, yet cheaper. The only difference is that white gold isn't as tough as platinum.

* Tungsten carbide: A popular ring today, tungsten carbide ring also became one of the most durable form of wedding ring today. Known to be tougher than platinum, a tungsten carbide ring is said to resist any kind of scratches and scuffs. Considered as a man's wedding ring, a tungsten carbide ring possesses a lustrous dark hue often buffed to a mirror finish. The color is more similar to that of hematite than to that of platinum.

* Titanium: Another popular wedding ring, this ring is known for its durability and gun-metal gray color. Like tungsten carbide, titanium rings are known for their durability that lasts for years. One drawback known with titanium is its light weight. Because of its light weight, people often mistook the wedding ring to be made from other cheaper metal.
