Timaru, Canterbury New Zealand (PressExposure) January 10, 2012 -- Short codes, much beloved of WordPress theme designers, are a great innovation. They bring a level of sophistication in website design to WordPress bloggers and site owners that would have been unheard of a few years ago.
Perhaps the strongest innovation is the ability to switch column widths within a page.
If you have an e-commerce site, selling similar products, you can line up three, four, five or even six products side-by-side.
After a bold, full width banner followed by a slideshow and some eye-catching graphics, service sellers quickly want to make a hit with three or four key benefits or outcomes of their service.
Slip in a short code and presentation changes from a single, full-width layout to three, perhaps four columns. Each of these containing important elements of the key message of the page.
Those three or four columns, each with a short text, graphic or photo help to keep the critical information 'above the fold.'
AJ Allen of Site DesigNZ, Canterbury, New Zealand is no stranger to innovation.
He has been quietly designing html/css templates for home business users for a number of years. You have to marvel at his dedication and industry. One forum that he contributes to regularly lists over 8000 posts in just over a four-year period. That's about 40 a week!
In his brief bio on that site his states that working with html/css and 'Doing what I can to help others' as his main interests. His main audience is single-handed, work from home, online business people. AJ's work is going to put a very powerful and adaptable design tool in our hands.
He tells me he's just playing around with the possibilities at the moment.
"If you find a traditional two or three column template is a bit restrictive, then check this out. Anything up to six columns, and you can "mix and match" any layout you like on a page. The only limit is your imagination," says AJ.
He has found time to put together a short video that makes the flexibility of 'The Ultimate Modular Template' abundantly clear. You'll find a link to the video below.
Perhaps that's all I need to say. I think the video speaks for itself. It says a lot in 10 minutes.
