Three Times a Charm

Chagrin Falls, Ohio (PressExposure) December 30, 2011 -- One might think running three businesses is a crazy thought but for Jennifer Li, it's a dream come true.

This past year, Jennifer started not one but two ecommerce businesses in addition to maintaining her original full time glass art business,

"I've always had that independent spirit, so becoming an entrepreneur was a natural step for me." In the early 90's, Jennifer had a full time corporate job as an underwriter in a nationally known insurance company. "I was bored to tears in the corporate environment", says Jennifer. It just wasn't for me." Having graduated from Purdue with a degree in Speech Pathology and a minor in Psychology, she really couldn't practice clinically without pursuing a Master's degree. "Freshly out of college and on my own, I couldn't afford to go to graduate school so I just started working". After five years in the corporate world, Jennifer left the insurance company to pursue split part-time jobs in merchandising and as a field researcher for a commercial real estate company.

After getting laid off, Jennifer decided then and there she would seriously pursue her passion in the art world and make her fledgling art business she had started a couple of years earlier, a real business rather than a hobby. She started making glass beads, a process known as Lampworking or Flameworking, and began her career as a jewelry artist, designing jewelry using her own glass beads. "I loved it and made a lot of money selling my jewelry at juried art festivals across the country, including shows in Telluride, CO, Kauai, HI, and the Pacific NW. I also continue to sell wholesale to galleries all over the country". Unfortunately, this past year has been a challenge for Jennifer as the economy has really taken it's toll on artists.

"I saw the writing on the wall and by the end of 2010, I was starting to look at other opportunities. Not to replace but to do something in addition to it.", Jennifer says. Jennifer loved her life as an artist but just needed to look at other opportunities to try to bring in more income.

In November, 2010, Jennifer was looking to re-do her jewelry website and came across a site that sold turnkey businesses. "The lightbulb definitely went on", Jennifer laughs. I knew it was time to sieze this opportunity and purchase one of these businesses!" Thus, was born. has been a work in progress and Jennifer continues to learn new things each and every day. In addition to the 1200 products that came with the business, Jennifer has added 1800 more by learning how to contact companies, establish a relationship with them, and bring their products into her business. is a luxury baby boutique that carries things for Mom too.

Fast forward one year and Jennifer is busy launching a sister site to "It was always my goal from the beginning to have 2 or 3 of these businesses". That goal was reached exactly one year later, in November of 2011 when Jennifer successfully launched that sister site,! "This time around, I knew how to contact vendors and add products so I personally handpicked every company I work with and added their products". Sweetandsassygirl now boasts over 1200 products and is on the front page of Google for several of her main keywords and it's only been one month since launch! sells "everything hip, chic, and trendy for girls"!

Jennifer still continues to do her glass art, excited to try some new art festivals this coming year. "I am hoping to travel to New York for a couple of shows". All in addition to running her two ecommerce sites! That's the beauty of ecommerce businesses. "I can run them from a hotel room or from home. It's going to be an exciting year and I'm ready for it...bring it on"!
