Dallas, TX (PressExposure) May 08, 2014 -- Municipalities, electric cooperatives, and investor-owned utilities across the country are switching to a prepaid model in which consumers pay for electricity before they use it. The prepaid model offers consumers a pay-as-you-go option without any need for traditional monthly bills. Consumers with a prepaid account have access to detailed information about their energy consumption and can choose the amount and frequency of payments, obtaining greater control over their energy consumption and budgeting practices.
The town of Selma, North Carolina has partnered with Dallas, Texas-based Exceleron Software, the leading software developer of prepaid solutions for the utility sector. Representatives of the Public Utilities Department will complete their training this month for a full rollout that will make prepaid accounts available to residential customers. Exceleron's MyUsage software is already managing prepaid accounts for ten utility service providers in North Carolina alone.
"We're very excited to have the town of Selma select our software to launch and manage its prepaid program," said Jeff Severs, COO of Exceleron Software. "We've seen how other municipalities have reaped the benefits of our comprehensive solution, and we look forward to helping the Selma Public Utilities Department improve its customer service and customer satisfaction by offering prepaid accounts to local community members."
As a web-based, hosted solution, MyUsage offers full functionality for launching and managing prepaid accounts without any need for the utility to purchase additional hardware or in-home devices. This minimizes the risk and expense of launching a prepaid program, allowing utility service providers to pass the savings on to consumers.
Once an individual opts into a prepaid program, there are no paper bills, no large deposits, no late charges, and no disconnect or reconnect fees. Consumers can access their account balance and usage history via the MyUsage.com web portal, telephone, email, and text messaging, and they can apply additional funds to their prepaid account through a variety of convenient payment options.
