Laurens, (PressExposure) November 13, 2008 -- Most people think of turkeys as the highlight of the Thanksgiving meal with all kinds of wonderful side dishes to go with them. While this is true, turkeys arenât just for Thanksgiving! The National Wild Turkey Federation, located in Edgefield, South Carolina, is dedicated to the conservation and preservation of the 5 species of North American wild turkey.
The Winchester Museum, located inside the main building, is the only museum in the world dedicated to the restoration, management and hunting of the wild turkey. This large museum contains many interactive exhibits including a simulated ride in a retired USDA Forest Service helicopter, learning to operate different types of wild turkey calls and more. Several animatronics tell stories of turkeys, conservation and hunting techniques of the Cherokee Indians. An Outdoor Education Center provides even more fun things to do at this unique attraction in South Carolinaâs Old 96 District. The NWTF is located on US 25 in Edgefield, South Carolina.
