Dubai, Uae (PressExposure) July 23, 2011 -- Precor, the star under-16 football team, gave their opponents a decisive drubbing to be placed second in the qualifying rounds at the World Cup for youth football, the Gothia Cup 2011.
On Monday, Precor played against formidable Swedish opponents, Melleruds IF. It was a tough game, but the Precor players played tenaciously, whittling the team down to only 10 players in the last twenty minutes. UAE Precor eventually scored twice to lead the team to victory at 2-1.
On Tuesday, UAE Precor faced German team TSV Buchholz 08. UAE Precor scored a decisive victory at 4-0.
On Wednesday, UAE Precor gave 2010 Gothia Cup finalist Floro SK a run for their money but lost 2-0. However, regardless of the results of this match, the team entered the knock-out round with 64 other teams. When their opponents, Liria KF from Kosovo, Serbia, did not turn up to the match, UAE Precor won a 3-0 victory by default, entering the knock-out-32 round.
"The boys are in top form and their morale is running high. One of our greatest strengths is our team spirit - the players have always played aggressively as a unit. We welcome the challenges that lie ahead in this tournament and we know that we are more than up to it," said Derek Burke, the team's coach.
The next match is against Ecuadorian team Academia Alfaro Moreno to enter the knock-out-16 round.
UAE Precor are the only under-16 team representing the UAE. Around 50,000 fans and 800 teams from 70 different countries attended the opening ceremony at the Ullevi stadium, the biggest stadium in Scandinavia.
