UK Huddersfield Man Solves Workplace Stress

Mr Edmonds explains that stress is a state not an illness. Just over a hundred years ago in 1908, two fellows named Yerkes and Dodson developed a law that states that productivity increases with work pressures, but only to a point. Go past that point and productivity declines rapidly. A hundred years later, the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel Development) recognises that work pressure is actually good for us as humans because we need challenges in order to grow and learn. However, work pressure is only fine to a point, and if one goes past that point, then work pressure turns into stress. It has become very clear from this that work stress is born at the exact point where work pressure starts to become excessive. The stress may be self-imposed or imposed by others, and of course workplace pressure tolerance is different for everyone. The videos produced by are not entertainment or a gimmick. They are based on three decades of scientific research work by Dr Herbert Benson in the USA who has written over 30 books on various types of stress reduction, and originally wrote The Relaxation Response in the 1970s, and more recently The Breakout Principle. Benson is the Director Emeritus of the Benson-Henry Mind-Body Institute in Massachusetts, and Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and arguably the world leader in stress reduction research.

Mr Edmonds explains, “The three scientific facts proven by Dr Benson:-

Firstly, he has proven scientifically that the human brain can only think of one thing at a time. We tend to think we can think of more than one thing – but we cannot. When we think we are thinking of more than one thing at a time, it is because our brains, like computers, are moving rapidly between thoughts.

Secondly, he has proved that if we narrow our focus down to one single thought to the exclusion of all other thoughts, it results in the brain receiving a rest. This is one of the few times that our brains get a rest. It doesn’t rest when we sleep because it is sorting out the previous day’s activities. People who meditate have known this for centuries and that is one of the main reasons most types of meditation work so successfully.

Thirdly, and most importantly, Dr Benson has proven in only the last five years that when the brain focuses on one single peaceful thought to the exclusion of all other thought for just ten minutes, the human body naturally and automatically creates small amounts of nitric oxide which are sufficient enough to suppress the dangerous hormones and adrenalines that built up during stress. Benson has measured it consistently in laboratory conditions and proven that the natural ‘nitric oxide effect’ is one of the key physiological antidotes to stress and a scientific fact.”
