London, United Kingdom (PressExposure) February 26, 2013 -- Unbeknown to many, March is in fact National Bed Month in the United Kingdom. Run by The Sleep Council, the awareness campaign serves to remind Britons of the importance of the health and well-being benefits of a good night's sleep, and the role beds play in ensuring this.
Jonathan Attwood, a spokesperson for The Duvet and Pillow Warehouse DAPW comments: "Your bed frame, mattress and bedding can all influence the quality of your sleep. It's vital to ensure these are up to scratch and provide for a comfortable sleep environment."
If affected by a lack of sleep, people can suffer from a range of consequences such as snoring, sleep apnoea, lethargy and irritability. In turn, these symptoms can affect relationships and productivity levels at work, school or university, as well as alertness, which is vital when driving a car or using heavy equipment, for example.
"Issues such as creaking bed frames, protruding mattress springs and worn out duvets are likely contributors to sleep disorders," Attwood continues.
"These are items which should always be bought from respectable retailers to ensure quality, durability and longevity of life. Before making a purchase, do your research on the specifications of the product and consider customer reviews which are readily available online."
Visitors to the Sleep Council website can find a handy guide to buying a new bed and tips on how to get a good night's sleep, such as banning gadgets from the bedroom. Also on hand are videos offering tips for creating the perfect sleep environment and concealing signs of tiredness with makeup and more. These will be promoted during National Bed Month.
Founded in 1995, The Sleep Council is a non-profit organisation created with the aim of promoting healthy sleep. It is funded by the National Bed Federation, which is the trade association for UK bed manufacturers.
DAPW are an online bed and bath retailer based in the UK. Products in the bedroom range include mattresses, duvets, bed linen and more. A current promotion on site is offering buyers a free goose down pillow worth £45 with the purchase of a 13.5 tog goose down duvet.
