Atlanta, Georgia (PressExposure) July 30, 2010 -- Atlanta Motor Speedway, located just 25 miles south of Atlanta in Hampton, Georgia, is the place to be on Thursday and Friday nights this summer. Thursday Thunder is an evening of fun and racing on the Thunder Ring, the paved quarter mile track. Up-and-coming drivers from all over the country come to race in eight different classes. Each Thursday night has a different theme, and fans are encouraged to dress for the theme.
In addition to the racing, there are exciting intermission activities and contests. There are also merchandise and ticket giveaways. Admission prices for Thursday Thunder are $5 for adults and $1 for ages 6-11. Children under 6 are admitted free. The gates open at 6:00PM and the feature races start at 7:30PM. Thursday Thunder is a fun and affordable family event.
On Friday nights Atlanta Motor Speedway presents one of its most popular events, Friday Night Drags. This is a street style drag racing series on the eighth mile pit road. Racing is open to any car and any driver with a valid driver's license. The Show & Shine car show also takes place on Friday nights. All vehicles are welcome to enter and awards are given to the top three cars in each class. Competitors pay $20 to either drag race or enter the Show & Shine, or $30 to enter both events. Fans pay just $7 to watch the action. This is a great bargain for a full evening of entertainment. The gates open at 6:30PM. Judging for the Show & Shine car show begins at 6:30PM, and the awards ceremony is at 8:55PM. Drag racing opening ceremonies start at 9:10PM.
Atlanta Motor Speedway is located in Hampton, Georgia on Hwy. 19/41. The 870 acre facility contains a 1.54 mile quad oval track. The grandstands seat over 125,000 fans. The first race at the speedway was run in 1960, and the track was totally reconfigured in 1997. Atlanta Motor Speedway hosts NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, Busch series races, drag racing, and Indy car racing. The facility is one of auto racing's most popular and fan-friendly venues.
