WLCI Mumbai Media Students Visit Sahara Samay

Noida, India (PressExposure) January 06, 2012 -- BROADCAST NEWS

Broadcast News is a term most of us are familiar with. But how does news from being just an occurrence tune into our homes? That's a question most don't know. So Wednesday, 9th Nov 2011, 11 am was our appointment with Sahara India to get our answers. On arriving at the office, we were directed to a boardroom. On a cup of tea, Mr Shyam Ramgopalan cleared our doubts. Now Broadcast is possible because of systematic coordination between the whole team.

THE REPORTERS

Their job is to report things and to investigate and ingest their reported footage (called Raw Footage) thru the servers to the Assignment desk.

THE ASSIGNMENT DESK.

The Assignment Desk (AD) is divided into two - Input and Output.

a. The Input AD. The Input Department is responsible to decide the assigning of reporters for a particular news and later coordinating with them. They also process and edit the Raw Footage and then hand it over to the Output AD.

b. The Output AD. The Output Department is responsible for the scripting of the edited footage. They are also in- charge of publishing the edited footage (Published Footage).

So the Basic flow of everything is as below.

A few other points to be remembered.

- Generally a Rundown (Time-slot of shows) doesn't change for 6 months. But a show can be dropped after 16 weeks due to TRP ratings.

- The life span of the news is never more than 4hrs.
