Women World Leaders Again Make History

Port Vila, Vanuatu (PressExposure) July 14, 2010 -- When power-brokers ousted Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and moved Julian Gillard in to power, as Australia's first woman prime minister, history was made. It took the number of concurrent female world leaders to 14.

Once again history has been made with Rosa Otunbayeva being sworn in as president of the troubled republic of Kyrgyzstan this number, taking the number of women as international leaders to 15.

Following violent street riots in April which ousted President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, Mrs Otunbayeva took power.

Celebrating the country's first parliamentary democracy, Otunbayeva's appointment came just days after a referendum on a new constitution. As the former foreign minister became the first female president of an ex-communist Central Asian country, even more history was created.

Women dominate the world scene, with three ruling Queens and four female Governor Generals.

Yet even on a regional basis, women are in the forefront. If resided in Sydney, Australia, you would be under all female authority.

• Head of State is Queen Elizabeth, • Quentin Bryce is Govenor General, • Prime Minister Julia Gillard, • Marie Bashir is New South Wales Govenor, • Kristina Keneally is New South Wales Premier, • Lord Mayor of Sydney is Clover More and • Tanya Plibersek is Federal Representative.

Sydney also hosts the Sussan Women's Fun Run, where the organizers expect about 5,000 participants to join the Australia's premier women, in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the event.

Sydney will also play host to an Australian Women's Leadership Symposium, where 100s of women congregate to study contemporary leadership. Women leaders from all sectors and industries will be exposed to state-of-the-art leadership thinking, instructed first-hand by Australia's distinctive inspirational leaders, trainers and academics, over a two day program.

Emanuel Perdis, Managing Director of Napoleon Perdis, will be one male to face the female gauntlet, as one of the guest speakers.

On one front Sydney has refused to budge. The Anglican diocese has adamantly refused to tolerate women to be inducted as priests. Sydney has detached itself from all other Anglican Dioceses in Australia. Any woman priest transferring from an outside into the Sydney dioceses, is 'demoted' to being accepted as just a deacon.

This condition has grown to be a source of resentment and even a court action, as Sydney tried to influence other dioceses to follow their stance.
