Workshops On Marketing Via The Internet

Hickory, NC (PressExposure) July 03, 2008 -- The Catawba Valley Community College Alexander Center will present two workshops in July that are designed to help local small business owners develop effective e-mail ad campaigns and set up their own websites.

Sponsors are the CVCC Small Business Center, the Alexander County Chamber of Commerce, the Alexander County Economic Development Corporation (EDC), and telecommunications leader, EMBARQ.

These workshops will be hands-on, interactive, working classes led by John Geiger of WSI Internet Consulting and Education in Hickory. Geiger is a professional webmaster who specializes in turn-key, e-commerce business solutions for small and medium-sized companies in the Unifour area.

Proficiency in Windows and Internet use is a must for these workshops.

The first workshop, "Build a Better Ad Campaign," will be held on Thursday, July 10, from 9 a.m. until noon. Using a trial version of popular, web-based contact management software and their own email address lists, student companies will develop and launch email ad campaigns and measure their effectiveness during the class. They craft messages that will catch the eye of their target customers, and they will learn how to build effective lists, optimize open and activity rates and minimize opt-outs. The fee for this seminar is $49.

The second workshop, "Build a Company Website" will be presented in two, interactive sessions, on Thursday, July 17 and 24, from 9 a.m. until noon. Using a free, web-based design application, student companies will build a company website during the class. They will select appropriate templates, insert pages and content, import photos and graphics, create hyperlinks and email accounts. At the end of the two sessions, information will be provided about purchasing domain names and hosting services for company websites. The fee for this class is $99.

To facilitate the learning process, EMBARQ will provide temporary hosting services for a 30- day period after the last class. Companies can use this time to continue refining their sites for eventual paid residence with Embarq or a provider of choice.

The CVCC Alexander Center is located off Highway 16 in Taylorsville, NC
