New York, NY (PressExposure) April 23, 2013 -- X-STREAM is a kinetic, visual and multi-lingual polyphony of 8 contemporary women who download life wisdom through a voice-activated messenger while living on the edge. Visual, narrative and physical vignettes weave the stylistic "Mandala" that catapults them into whimsical situations of urgency and remembrance. Powered by the schizophrenic pull between reality and identity they are challenged to co-exist in a muted world - devoid of sensory perception, shared ground and ecological sanity. Volcanic states of consciousness dissolve into a dissonant ambiance of syncopated rhythms that captures the extreme pulse of modern life, spilling and reassembling into fragments of the "future past," carving a mode of dance theatre that juxtaposes two extremes of scale - the environmental and the intimate. The threats of consumerism, digital addiction and the high alert for water depletion and preservation run as a connective tissue through the dramatic fabric of X-STREAM, the pool of unknown possibilities for re-invention.
In the end, the communal experience of an urban flash mob engages performers and viewers into a mutual dance of "heart-storming," as they reclaim their identity and heal the broken link between self and other.
X-STREAM, is the second of three eco-interdisciplinary projects nurtured by Overground's holistic educational platform Ecorporeality - a signature method that helps performance artists re-examine their relationship to reality, identity and ecology. Through eco-somatic exploration, vocal and kinesthetic experiments, post dramatic theatre and artful yoga performers are offered space to carve the inner and outer environment of our body's voice to encompass a reality that is urgent, interdependent and multi-dimensional. Ecorporeality fosters artistic creativity by amplifying relevant situations to create meaning and resonance.
