London, United Kingdom (PressExposure) June 17, 2009 -- The UK arm of Youth for Human Rights International gathered signatures in London recently for a petition to mandate human rights education in schools in London.
The number of London Boroughs reporting human rights abuses in 2008 was 26 out of 32. The main plague in our capital city today is child and woman trafficking. This is a situation that we seem to think happens elsewhere. But if we take a closer look in is on our own doorstep.
This is the reason a team of human rights advocates set out to gather signatures on a petition for the mandating of human rights education in schools across London. They set up in Westminster where hundreds of passers-by stopped to find out more.
With education about these issues and how they relate to us, one will minimally know that they have rights. Then once they know what they are an individual will be able to use these within their groups so we start to see a difference in our schools, communities, cities and country.
Youth For Human Rights International, UK branch, has been conducting this campaign for the last few years, gathering support for what they see as the start point to actually making human rights a reality.
Volunteer and Muslim, Abdi, stated âIt is vital we do this, making people aware of what their rights are and showing them where they can find out more is really good. The more signatures we have, we will use this pressure to make it mandatory that every human being knows what human rights are across London.â To find out more about human rights, visit http://www.youthforhumanrights.org
