Youngstown State University Recognized by Board of Regents

Columbus, Ohio (PressExposure) November 02, 2011 -- Williamson College for Business Administration Center of Excellence in International Business Receives Ohio Center of Excellence Designation.

Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Jim Petro, joined by Youngstown State University President Cynthia E. Anderson, today named Youngstown State University's Williamson College of Business Administration Center of Excellence in International Business an Ohio Center of Excellence in Cultural and Societal Transformation.

"I commend Youngstown State University for reaching beyond the geographical boundaries and logistical limitations to create the Williamson College of Business Administration Center of Excellence in International Business," Chancellor Petro said. "Providing students and faculty members with the opportunity to research and participate in global business, and at the same time enhance the regional economy is what makes this center unique."

This is the third Center of Excellence designation for Youngstown State University and the 50th Center of Excellence designation awarded by the Ohio Board of Regents.

"This designation is a mark of distinction for the YSU Williamson College of Business Administration and a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the faculty, staff and administration of the college, as well as dozens upon dozens of supporters across the community," YSU President Cynthia E. Anderson said.

The WCBA Center of Excellence in International Business encompasses global learning experiences for students, research in international business, the study of emerging markets, and training and consulting services for businesses. Components of the Center include the Williamson Center for International Business, the Emerging Markets Initiative, and the Ohio Small Business Development Center at YSU.

The Center provides global education and educational opportunities to both undergraduate and graduate students, supports and encourages both basic and applied faculty research in the various areas of global business, enhances local and regional economic development through workshops, seminars, consulting, networking, and student internships and projects.

The Emerging Markets Initiative supports international study tours, curriculum development, faculty research projects, several outreach seminars, and the design and delivery of an International Business Scholars Workshop for high school students.

The Ohio SBDC program is a partnership of the U.S. Small Business Administration, Youngstown State University, and the Ohio Department of Development. The Center provides professional, in-depth consulting and training to existing and new business ventures, and fosters a strong and successful business community. The SBDC also house a new International Trade Assistance Center that will provide full-time international trade assistance to regional businesses.

In addition to making an impact on the local and regional economy, the Center works directly with organizations interested in entering an international market or improving the efficiency of their existing internal operations. The Center also works closely with local and regional organizations to expand international business in the region.

About the Williamson College of Business Administration The Williamson College of Business Administration offers the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree and the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with majors in accounting, advertising/public relations, business economics, finance, general administration, human resource management, international business, management information systems, and marketing. Both degrees programs are accredited by AACSB International-The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Also housed in the WCBA are is the Williamson Center for International Business, the Nathan and Frances Monus Entrepreneurship Center, the Center for Nonprofit Leadership, and the Ohio Small Business Development Center at YSU.
