Seattle, WA (PressExposure) January 06, 2010 -- After spending virtually her entire life voyaging in the Pacific Ocean region, the 110-passenger Clipper Odyssey will operate an entirely new routing in 2011, featuring a collection of first-ever Clipper Odyssey educational cruises. Zegrahm Expeditions, long-term charterer of the vessel, announced the new deployment plan as a way to meet the growing demand for new experiences and a wider range of itinerary choices, as indicated by adventure travelers, organizations in the group market, and potential sub-charterers of the vessel.
âStarting in January 2011, the ship will essentially chart a course west from Singapore, reaching Iceland by the summer, with a string of remarkable itineraries ideal for a ship of this size and high caliber,â explained Zegrahm President Jon Nicholson. âYears of surveys of travelers have indicated strong demand for the new destinations we will offer,â Nicholson said.
Several nine- to 11-day voyages in 2011 have been planned to experience the rich culture, stunning landscapes, and diverse natural history found in these fabled and romantic regions. As the Clipper Odyssey explores multiple oceans and seas, some sample itineraries include (with many more available):
Circumnavigation of Sicily (April 7-17) - Begin and end your journey in Malta, spend ten spring days sailing the Azure waters of the Mediterranean to the legendary medieval cities of enchanting Sicily, exploring nine World Heritage Sites along the way.
The Azores (May 30 â June 9) â From Ponta Delgada (roundtrip), this Clipper Odyssey educational cruise sails in the wake of European explorers to the Atlantic archipelago that once constituted the western barrier of the known world. These dramatic volcanic islands feature historic architecture, lush gardens and vineyards, marine mammals, seabirds, beautiful beaches, and colorful markets.
Wild & Ancient Britain (June 13-23 and August 16-24) - From Plymouth to Edinburgh (or in reverse), join an in-depth exploration of the remote and isolated coastlines of the British Isles. Far from modern-day cities, isolated villages tucked in bays and fjords remain timeless, and windswept cliffs and promontories are a photographerâs dream â home to ancient castles or teeming with the largest seabird colonies of Europe.
Iceland to Scotland (August 5-16) â Embark in Reykjavik for 12 days of sailing the routes of the Viking seafarers to encounter glaciers and geysers, waterfalls and wildflowers, whales and seals, hot springs and, of course, a profusion of seabirds. Enroute to Scotland, explore the dramatic Faroe Islands, ending in historic Edinburgh.
Aegean (September 11-19) â During an ideal time of year, depart from Creteâs capital, Heraklion, to savor the splendors of the Aegean Sea. Tranquil islands and medieval villages fill an itinerary that leads us to the magical city of Istanbul, and the perfect jumping off point for independent exploration in Turkey.
Lost Cities of the Mediterranean (October 25 â November 2) â Set sail from Istanbul and be charmed by some of the most famous ancient cities of the eastern Mediterranean. Explore tiny harbors along the coast of Turkey, visit the spectacular temples and streets of Ephesus, and end your journey meandering through the once-opulent Palace of Knossos in Crete.
Journey Through the Red Sea (November 7-23) â Unravel threads of history that reach back epochs. Among the stunning World Heritage Sites showcased along the way are Jordanâs red sandstone ruins at Petra and Egyptâs remote St. Catherineâs Monastery and Luxor, with the famed Valley of the Kings. A highlight is legendary Jeddah, âgateway to Mecca,â and the scenic Dahlak archipelago in Eritrea.
The Clipper Odyssey educational cruises are the perfect all-inclusive experience, with a team of industry-best lecturers and guides leading the way. Travelers enjoy the shipâs optimal size, multiple decks, all ocean-view cabins, fine cuisine, one-seating dining and spacious public rooms.
