ABC Children's Picture Book Competition Finalist

Pleasanton, CA (PressExposure) September 07, 2009 -- The ABC Children’s Picture Book 5th Competition has chosen 12 finalists and paired each with an illustrator. The winning team will be chosen by internet voting and will receive a publishing contract.

As stated from the ABC Children’s Picture Book Competition website: “Research into the market yielded the fact that for every 12,000 children’s picture book submissions, an average of three books are actually published. Overwhelming odds, don’t you think? So we set out to create a competition that would give the unknown author a chance to reach his or her goal of being published.”

Tracy Mesuda is a parent of a three year old girl. She was inspired by her daughter to write Hello My Friends to enhance children’s awareness and appreciation of our multicultural world. MaiLei, the main character learns through friends from various countries the different words to greet when they meet, providing MaiLei with a true insight to diversity around the world.

The Illustrator chosen to illustrate the piece is Michelle Munger, an up-and-coming new artist from Texas. “Working in a children’s hospital and having three kids at home, I am constantly surrounded by children. It seemed only natural for me to gravitate towards children’s book illustration.” Michelle was ecstatic when she was chosen to be one of the illustrator’s and has called her experience in the contest so far, ‘one of the most nerve wrecking experiences ever, but one I would do over again in a heartbeat.
