AIMA NMC: Inclusive Growth, Not Just High GDP, Needed Today: P Chidambaram

Noida, India (PressExposure) September 28, 2011 -- Union Minister for Home Affairs Mr. P Chidambaram inaugurated the 38th National Management Convention in New Delhi today. Organized by All India Management Association (AIMA) the theme of the two day convention is 'Inclusive Growth: A Challenging Opportunity'.

Addressing the gathering of India's top business leaders on the overall theme of the convention, Mr. Chidambaram said, "We should not measure growth with GDP, per capita income etc alone. Inclusive growth can come from lowered poverty levels, better health care facilities, better education. Education is a key parameter to promote inclusive growth. Merely having the ability to sign your name is not enough! Skill development is needed. Also, special attention needs to be paid to the under privileged sections of society. To bring change, every business must contribute."

Mr. Chidambaram further said, "India has seen many positive developments. The revival of BIMARU states, increase in wage rates in agriculture sector, improvements in infrastructure. These developments are good, but we need more better and wider outcomes. For this we need more resources. More taxes needed to be raised."

Amongst the key highlight of the first day of the two day convention was the presentation of 'Managing India Awards for Emerging Business Leaders of the Year'. The awards were given to GV Sanjay Reddy, Vice Chairman, GVK Industries Limited and Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director, Bajaj Auto Ltd.

Another key highlight was the presentation of Honorary Fellowship on Rana Kapoor, Founder, Managing Director & CEO, Yes Bank Ltd.

The welcome address was given by Gautam Thapar, Chairman of Avantha Group & President, AIMA. The theme address was given by Rana Kapoor, Founder, Managing Director & CEO, Yes Bank & Convention Chairman. Rekha Sethi, Director General, All India Management Association, also welcomed the dignitaries to the convention.
