Alan Carlson, MD Participates in 1st Annual American College of Ophthalmic Surgeons (ACOS) User's Meeting via Skype

Durham, North Carolina (PressExposure) August 31, 2011 -- Members of the American College of Ophthalmic Surgery (ACOS) came together in the 1st Annual Laser Refractive Cataract Surgery User's Meeting on July 28-31, 2011. The meeting, held at St. Regis Deer Valley in Utah, was attended by leading pioneers and distinguished experts the field of ophthalmology and refractive cataract surgery.

Over 100 highly-respected ophthalmic surgeons from all over the United States participated. Shareef Mahdavi of SM2 Strategic, and Mark Kontos, M.D., presented best practices for physicians interested in improving patient care and communication utilizing the internet, e-mail, and social media.

Noted eye surgeon, Dr. Alan Carlson, of the Duke Eye Center in Durham, North Carolina, was among those who joined the ACOS meeting via online voice and video conferencing application; Skype.

As a member of ACOS and leading specialist in LASIK eye surgery, Dr. Carlson highlighted the importance of respecting the regulatory (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act - HIPPA), as well as institutional boundaries when dealing with matters related to patient care and communicating by e-mail and social media.
