Bellington, WA (PressExposure) February 23, 2012 -- When 42 year old indie rocker Catherine Raap found herself checking in on a Twilight fan blog daily to see what was happening with the stars, some nearly half her age, she knew something was wrong. She began to wonder what makes us so fascinated with the lives of celebrities? Moreover, how much do we have a right to know? "I never thought I was caught up in the whole celebrity culture, but then I realized I was checking this blog every day and reading the tabloid headlines at the supermarket, and yeah, I was caught up in it," says Raap. Her new single Striptease likens our thirst to know everything about our favorite celebrity to a striptease, with the celebrity revealing bits of themselves to a public who always wants more. So what does this have to do with dogs? Raap explains "Striptease is heavily influenced by the obsession of fans for Robert Pattinson, and one thing I learned from the Twilight blog was that he adopted a rescue dog. I thought it would be fitting to donate 50% of the proceeds from this single to the SPCA through June 2012 in honor of that."
Raap has been writing and recording her DIY brand of indie pop off and on for over twenty years, most recently under the moniker Maps for Sleep. Striptease will be included on the full length album Celebrity Boyfriends to be released later in 2012. The album continues the exploration of personal and societal obsession with celebrity culture. Striptease is available for download from iTunes, Amazon, CDBaby and others. She is also offering a "name your own price" option via Bandcamp on her website http://www.mapsforsleep.com . Raap says she realizes her homemade style of music may not appeal to everyone, but this is one time she doesn't mind if her song is for the dogs.
