DIY School Chosen To Lend Expertise To Grand Designs Show Live In London

Meadow Mill, Stockport, United Kingdom (PressExposure) April 21, 2009 -- Respected DIY and Construction Training company, The DIY School has been asked to share its expertise by TV’s Kevin McCloud and his Grand Designs team at the Grand Design Show Live at ExCeL London from 25 April to 4 May.
Gifted teacher and plasterer of 31 years experience, Mike Tattsersall, who has worked at Stockport based The DIY School for the past 6 months, will be presenting two “How to” seminars on 3 May, one on plastering, the other on tiling a bathroom.

"Now's the best time in 15 years to self-build, renovate, convert, extend or remodel,” says Kevin McCloud and the “How to” events are designed to give people an insight into the essential skills required to carry out successful projects at home.

Andy Gerrard, co owner of The DIY School, adds, “These trades are about process more than a mysterious “art”. If you are taught well and follow the process you can’t help but tile and plaster to high standards.”

In recent years the boom in TV programmes such as Grand Designs has given people an insight to the art of the possible in terms of interior design and renovation projects but many still lack the confidence to have a go themselves, particularly when it comes to plastering and tiling, feeling that they are, quite literally, up against a brick wall.

The 4-day Plastering Courses and Tiling Courses at the DIY School in Stockport equip people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to carry out such tasks in an outstanding, practical learning environment with fun, patient and experienced trainers, safe and spacious learning bays and time to master the essentials.

The “How to” seminars will demonstrate that skimming or re-skimming a wall or tiling a bathroom is an easy process rather than an art form, and knowing when to stop to let the plaster progress to its next stage is simply a matter of being taught and coached through the process.

Tiling products including grouts, tiles and adhesives have also come on a long way making it much easier to get things right first time in a shorter time.

The seminars are a must-see for visitors to the Grand Design Show Live. However, for those who will not be attending but would like more confidence to tackle DIY projects around the home a course at The DIY School is well worth considering.

Tiling and plastering courses are proving extremely popular at The DIY School and at less than £300 per course, just one project will give a return on the investment and continue to be a money saving or earning skill to be used for ever!
