Albany, Western Australia Australia (PressExposure) March 29, 2007 -- After hilarious, enthralling school tours in Australia the creative Dan and Dave team are planning further school incursions around the world after receiving worldwide interest about their program.
Dan and Dave (Rob Daniel and Dave McCleery) collaborate to create children's books, with Dan as the writer and Dave as cartoonist and illustrator. However these writing childrenâs books is only a small part of what these two energetic characters get up to.
Committed to making education fun while demonstrating young people can do what they previously believed impossible, their presentations for up to 200 children at a time leave their audiences astonished at their new abilities. In a very funny opening Dan and Dave run a series of warm-ups for the brain before demonstrating everyone's ability to travel faster than the speed of light, before safely engaging them in a writing exercise that no one wants to stop!
They move into getting everyone to memorise a huge list of items after seeing them just once, and while all this is going on Dave is demonstrating cartooning, illustration and creation techniques for all the budding artists in the room - which turns out to be everyone!
There is a real passion and commitment in what Dan and Dave do in schools and their sense of fun, spontaneity, improvisation and trust in the abilities of the young people they work with, rub off so powerfully that children experiences a massive boost in their own ability and self-esteem.
Ask how they do it, and they wont be able to give you a straight answer. Their shows are not rehearsed and though the object of the presentations is always achieved, how they get there is often a big mystery.
"We trust our audience" Dan said, before embarking on his most recent solo tour of Perth schools in Western Australia. "Right from the start we make sure children and their teachers feel safe, without fear of 'getting it wrong' or 'looking silly' which, sadly, most people are fearful of. Once that has been removed and the warm ups are in full swing, there's a whole new creative energy in the room and it affects everyone."
Dave is currently living in the UK preparing for another jaunt down under, which includes a seven week tour of schools in Western Australia and New South Wales.
Speaking from his home in Buxton, Derbyshire, Dave said, 'I am so ready for this. I cant wait. When Dan and I get in the room together anything can happen. Kids find skills and ideas they never dreamed existed and it rubs off on us. We see their confidence soar and never get enough of that. Did I tell you I cant wait?"
In a letter passed on to Dan recently one deputy principal said, "You encouraged children who are very reluctant speakers and writers to step outside their comfort zone and entertain themselves and an audience.
Each child had a sparkle in their eyes that we rarely see. They were engaged, enthused and most importantly eager.
To witness children who are not risk takers, grapple for your attention so they could be part of your magic world is a wonderful experience."
