"We work in the name of 'pleasure management'," says Hello Cool World founder and creative director Katherine Dodds. "I say management ironically, but I really do mean pleasure. We don't think fear works. We've taken a positive message approach in all our work, but when it comes to sex, how can you not use pleasure?"
She adds, "It's been an exciting 10 years for us, starting as a grassroots campaigning company working on indie films, and evolving into a mature advertising agency taking on cutting edge, full-blown social advertising campaigns."
Hello Cool World has been at the forefront of sexy cause-based advertising, working for the past decade with organizations like Options for Sexual Health (formerly Planned Parenthood BC) and more recently with BC Cancer Agency's LACE Campaign - which the Georgia Straight headlined as "the LACE Crusade - Public Health Gets Sexy".
Most recently the agency has teamed up with UBC PHD student Cindy Masaro, a Hello Cool World research associate, to create a social media conversation around her soon-to-be-launched online research survey.
Capitalizing (again ironically) in an arena once considered "activism", HCW specializes in creating, launching and maintaining sophisticated grassroots campaigns for social causes. HCW tamed the beast of social media before it even became a fad, and has been a social enterprise long before that buzz word became the fashion statement it now is.
