Dr. Apostolakis Now Provides Botox

Austin, TX (PressExposure) December 21, 2011 -- People in Austin who want to remove wrinkles in or around their face can now visit Dr. Louis W. Apostolakis, M.D., F.A.C.S., for Botox procedures at his clinic. The board-certified facial plastic surgeon helps his patients by removing wrinkles and frown lines from the face using Botox injections. Additionally, this injection is also given in his Austin clinic for treating excessive sweating of armpits.

Talking about the Botox procedure, Dr. Apostolakis said, "Botox is administered through an injection using a very fine needle that is almost as thin as a human hair. It is placed directly into the tissue that is to be treated. Usually this tissue is a muscle but it can also be skin that contains sweat glands.

Botox blocks the release of the neurotransmitter that connects nerves to muscles (and sweat glands). Without this neurotransmitter the muscle can't contract and goes into a relaxed state."

Using Botox, Dr. Apostolakis treats forehead wrinkles, glabellar wrinkles, crow's feet, excessive sweating of the armpits and muscular banding in the neck. Furthermore, he erases wrinkles around the mouth, though Botox can only remove these to a limited extent. The procedure takes only a few minutes and its effects last up to three months on facial muscles and six months to a year for sweating.

Talking about wrinkles, Dr. Apostolakis added, "We have many muscles in our face that connect to the skin for the purpose of making facial expressions. Each time we use those muscles, it causes the overlying skin to bunch up. Like any other material, if you bunch skin up over and over again, eventually it wrinkles. If you stop bunching the skin up, the wrinkles improve or go away completely depending on how deep they were to start with."

When getting Botox, Austin residents are accommodated in Dr. Apostolakis' excellent facility that is equipped with state-of-the-art tools. Like every medication, Botox comes with side effects such as slight bruising, skin irritation, droopy eyelid/eyebrow, and headache. These side effects, however, are temporary and typically subside within a few days.
