London, United Kingdom (PressExposure) February 13, 2009 -- UK consumers can now save a penguin by eating a Penguin - of the chocolate variety. Biscuit maker McVitie`s has teamed up with the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) to launch an initiative that could help save Antarctic penguins from the threats posed by climate change. The maker of Penguin biscuits and the owner of London Zoo are to launch an expedition to the coldest continent on earth to investigate how penguins are being affected by climate change.United Biscuits UK commercial manager Nick Stuart explained that the deal made perfect sense. `The partnership with ZSL is a perfect fit with the Penguin brand and will help scientists understand how climate change is threatening the penguins` habitat in Antarctica,` he said. McVitie`s is set to donate #163;50,000 to the ZSL to fund the expedition, while consumers munching penguins of the chocolate variety have a chance of winning trips to the zoo and even a family holiday to South Africa to see the animals in their natural habitat. Recent evidence suggested that Antarctica was in fact warming up and that evidence to the contrary was only taken from `hotspots` that will gradually disappear as the ozone layer repairs itself.
