Excelsior, Minnesota (PressExposure) May 19, 2009 -- Excelsior's Thursday night Girl's Night Out events are back. Starting June 4th and going through August, from 5:00-9:00pm downtown Excelsior is where the party is at.
During the month of June Girl's Night Out is partnering with Free Arts Minnesota. Free Arts is a non-profit organization that helps children who have been abused or neglected through the power of healing arts.
As part of this partnership during the month of June Excelsior Girl's Night Out merchants are doing an art supply drive. They are asking the public to donate new items such as glue sticks, crayons, paint kits and sketch pads, which can be dropped off at any Excelsior retailer.
"Excelsior retailers are working together with the community to help Minnesota children in need. Our Thursday night Girl's Night Out events are an opportunity for women from all over the Twin Cities to come to Excelsior to shop, be pampered, eat, drink, mingle and laugh and now also help a good cause." says Natalie Hagemo the Girl's Night Out Spokesperson.
Every other Thursday night there are theme nights. June 4th is "Sparkle Like a Princess" night. Women are encouraged to come out dressed like the princesses they truly are. Mrs. Excelsior Susie Overvold and Miss Minnesota Maddy Thoele will be handing out free tiaras while supplies last.
Volunteers from Free Arts will be out answering any question about how Free Arts can help Minnesota Children. Community members can sign the "Community Canvas" sponsored by Artworks, which will be presented to the children of Free Arts at the end of the month.
"We want our community to come out and express themselves creatively on the canvas to show our support for these children and the volunteers of Free Arts." says Hagemo.
The next theme night is June 18th and is "80's Diva" night. Women are invited to resurrect their big 80's hair, shoulder pads and chunky jewelry for a totally awesome night.
There will be 80's karaoke and a "Best Dressed 80's Diva" contest. Participants need to register at the Girl's Night Out stage on Water Street by 7:00pm to enter. The Community Canvas will be out again to sign or draw on for Free Arts.
June events will culminate with the much anticipated "Awakening" art show and silent auction on June 20th from 1:00pm-6:00pm at the Bird House Inn and Gardens at 371 Water Street in Excelsior. The one-day event benefits Free Arts Minnesota and features original paintings by Minnesota Artist Ashley Dull and Seattle artist Mark Nickels. There will be a ribbon cutting with Excelsior Mayor Nick Ruehl at 1:00pm. The silent auction of gift items, services, and Lake Minnetonka experiences will go from 1:00pm-3:00pm.
