Groups Band Together in Recognition of UN Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking in Sacramento

Sacramento, California (PressExposure) June 27, 2011 -- The International Faith Based Coalition, Foundation for a Drug Free World and the Church of Scientology culminated a weekend of activity to raise awareness about drug abuse and offer an educational tool that is garnering accolades from around the globe.

That tool is the Truth About Drugs program which is composed of the “They Said They Lied” PSA’s, a documentary video and educational booklets called the Truth About Drugs. The booklets cover diverse groups of illicit drugs such as Cocaine, Heroin, LSD, Crystal Meth, Ecstasy and Marijuana. Also there are booklets covering the abuse of prescription drugs which are fast becoming the most abused drugs. Included are painkillers as well other prescription drugs such as Ritalin which has a street name of Kiddy Cocaine. The program and its components are widely hailed as the best properties for educating youth in today’s world.

Established by the Church of Scientology, the Foundation for a Drug Free World continues the work of creating drug prevention educational materials which were distributed in Sacramento over the weekend as well as being made widely available at other events around the world in recognition of the UN’s efforts to raise awareness of drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

In all, over 1400 Truth About Drugs booklets were distributed locally to public attending various events at the California State Capitol on Friday and in other areas of downtown Sacramento on Saturday and Sunday.

As Bishop Dr. Ron Allen of the International Faith Based Coalition puts it, "Drugs show no preference and affects peoples of all ethnic and religious backgrounds and it is time to come together in unity to address drug abuse. Emphasis must be given to educating our youth about drugs and the best material out there to accomplish that is the Truth About Drugs."

The United Nations adopted Resolution 42/112 on December 7th in 1987 to observe June 26th as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.

The Foundation has yearly sponsored worldwide events to distribute the Truth About Drugs material to help forward and accomplish the goal of the UN resolution.
