The format will also allow for the open exchange of information to encourage the discovery of solutions to Urban Social problems as they relate to youth. Also to facilitate interaction among community partners and intellectuals that will help to establish concrete action plans for community development.

CTRIBAT Institute for Social Development Founder and Executive Director Shafiq Abdussabur stated that since the first Think Tank held in September 2006, several effective initiatives have been developed in the City of New Haven. Among those developments have been the Neighborhood Traveling Tour (C.C.C. “We Care Tour”), the New Haven Street Outreach Workers Program, CTRIBAT Gateway To National Prominence Media Arts Program, allocation of increase grants funding to grassroots organizations by City of New Haven Mayor John DeStefano, Jr., a reduction in youth related homicides, record low crime rate, and a significant increase in social development needs for youth, young adults and families who require “rap around services.”

Abdussabur said, “After having intensely conducted urban youth and young adult social development programs for the last five years, it has become apparently clear that Urban Gun Violence is a Major Health issue.” Reports released by the American Pediatrics report that for youth and young adult Black males it is the leading cause of death within the U.S. Abdussabur said, “The CT Urban Think Tank is about communities building infrastructure and strengthening relationships that will lead to the social autonomy of our urban community. It is about looking at the resources that are all around us in our communities and formulating strategies that will help us build and develop the necessary components to arm communities with real solutions that will significantly contribute to reducing the root causes to youth violence.”

Requirements for participating in the Think Tank is to provide a brief one page bio about the participating agency’s program, Provide a business card, brochure, and contact persons and representatives. This is a planning event and will follow the agenda.
