Holiday in the UK To Cut Spending And Carbon Footprint

London, United Kingdom (PressExposure) February 17, 2009 -- Visit Britain has suggested that 2009 is a great year to think about holidaying in the UK as travelling abroad is more expensive and damaging to the environment. The tourist board pointed out that the UK has many excellent holiday destinations such as Cornwall, the Cotswolds and the Lake District that can help holidaymakers have fun and reduce their carbon emissions and expenditure. Those who choose to drive to one of these destinations rather than fly abroad can reduce their carbon footprint even further by paying to offset their carbon emissions. VisitBritain press and PR manager Elliot Frisby explained that the recession and credit crunch also means that people are looking to avoid costly trips. `2009 offers a great deal of potential for encouraging more Britons to holiday at home,` he said. `Given the current exchange rates, they will find that many of their favourite overseas destinations in Europe and the USA are more expensive than last year. `In spite of the fact that 90 per cent of the population admit to cutting back on spending, only 45 per cent intend to do so on holidays.
