Falls Church, VA (PressExposure) October 26, 2009 -- Starting his new career in the beginning turmoil of the economy, Tommy Venable is surviving in the current economy with his line of TommyV's Salsa. Just last October, Tommy Venable was laid off from his graphic/web design job because of the downturn of the economy and other issues that came about from the running of the company he worked for. Thinking that he could easily find another position in his field, it turned out not to be the case. Tommy Venable is a self-taught graphic/web designer with 14+ years experience but does not have a college degree. Interview after interview, application after application and unfortunates after unfortunates, his severance pay was running low and he still didn't have a job. Tommy recalls what he said to himself when he was contemplating on what to do in the situation he was in "I am 40 year old black man, divorced with 2 kids, paying child support and living with my girlfriend that I've known since high school, what in the hell am I going to do..." After doing some major soul searching, Tommy Venable decided to follow his passions for cooking and start a food business in January of 2009.
It took Tommy close to 4 months to get his home kitchen inspected and certified to make his fresh salsa. On May 13th, Tommy passed inspection and was now ready to sell his salsa to the public. Though it was late in the season to get into the well known Farmers' Markets, one small up and coming Farmers' Market going by the name of Smart Markets, Inc, gave Tommy a shot to sell his fresh salsa. Selling his first container of TommyV's Salsa in June of 09, Tommy has been featured in July 09 on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams and will be featured in the January 2010 issue of Black Enterprise Magazine.
Since its debut in June, TommyV's Salsa has been in great demand at the local Smart Markets Inc., Farmers' Markets. With 3 different fresh flavors to choose from; Mild, Hot, and Sweet Fire, TommyV's Salsa is not only delicious and flavorful it is also healthy.
Now that the season is coming to a close, Tommy Venable will be making his final appearance Wednesday at George Mason University from 11:30AM - 3:30PM, Thursday at Reston Town Center 3:30PM - 6:30PM and Friday at Centreville Trinity Parkway. During his last appearance this week at these locations, Tommy will debut his newest seasonal creation, Cran-Slam'n an all new fresh cranberry salsa.
