Oxford, United Kingdom (PressExposure) January 20, 2009 -- International removals are continuing to boom despite a decline in the housing market here in the UK, according to relocation specialists Robinsons.
The firm, one of the UK's leading experts in house moves and corporate relocations, says the number of people seeking to emigrate has grown steadily in recent years, continuing to make international removals one of the most popular services it offers.
Ian Brown, Robinson's Head of International Moving, said: "International removals has been a big part of our business for the last 40 years and we have noticed an increase in growth particularly over the last five or six years.
"We're still getting a large number of inquiries from people who are looking to move overseas, even though the housing market is slow here. Australia has always been the most popular destination, closely followed by Canada and New Zealand.
"People think it's a big upheaval to move abroad, but from a removals point of view it isn't much different to moving house in the UK. We simply pack people's furniture and belongings in shipping container and then we have partners worldwide who unload and deliver at the other side."
To reflect the growing interest in moving abroad, Robinsons have put a new checklist on their website, www.robinsons-intl.com for anyone who is planning to emigrate.
The guide, called Your route to a new life, counts down from 18 months, to 12 months, six months, three months and then one month before the move. It recommends going on a fact finding trip and includes tips on paperwork that needs to be completed, medicals and other checks and sorting out finances.
Some of the more unusual tips include:
⢠Helping children get to know pupils in their destination country by arranging an online chat through the schools ⢠Cleaning outdoor furniture ready for removal, as any items covered in soil are not allowed through customs ⢠Setting up social networking accounts to stay in touch with friends and family after the move.
Robinsons' website also features country guides for Australia, Canada, New Zealand, USA and South Africa, frequently asked questions and customs information.
All emigrating clients get their own international move manager who co-ordinates the whole moving process and also advises on everything from the tax system in the new destination to the latest customs regulations.
Prices vary depending on destination and level of service, but a typical move from a three bed roomed home in the UK to Australia with Robinsons would cost between £3,000 and £4,000, including the packing and wrapping and all materials, loading, customs, shipping, delivery and unwrapping and unpacking at the final destination.
Robinsons International is a private, family owned business that was established more than 100 years ago and now has six bases around the UK. It handles home and business moves within the UK, Europe and worldwide, including corporate relocation into and out of the UK.
