Jollibee's Food Expansions

Pasay City, Philippines (PressExposure) November 06, 2009 -- Jollibee Food Corporation [], although known for its signature brand, is also known as one of the largest corporations that owns some of the best local and foreign fast-food chains in the food-service industry of the Philippines. Though Jollibee grew on its own, with its own uniqueness and passion for Filipino/American food, its founder, Tony Tan Caktiong, decided to expand their market to further improve their service to the Filipino people, as well as to penetrate all segments of the food-service industry. These is when Jollibee started to acquire other fast-food chains in the country.

Pizza-Pasta Market Jollibee Food Corporation [] first started their expansion by obtaining a deal acquiring 80% of Greenwich shareholding. Through the company, Greenwich Pizza steadily grew to become one of the largest pizza and pasta chain in the Philippines. Then in 2006 Jollibee Foods Corp. bought out the remaining shares of its partners in Greenwich Pizza Corp., equivalent to a 20% stake, for P384 million in cash. The company was then called Greenwich Pizza Corporation.

Oriental Market JFC then acquired Chowking, a Philippine-based chain that pioneered the Asian quick-service restaurant concept in the Philippines. On January 1, 2000, Chowking became a wholly owned subsidiary of Jollibee Foods Corporation, the Philippines' biggest fast-food chain. The change in ownership gave rise to store renovations and a new corporate look and mindset that is visible from front-end to back-end.

Cakes and Pastries Jollibee have also acquired Red Ribbon Bakeshop and Délifrance to further increase their hold on the food-service industry. Red Ribbon Bakeshop is a popular bakery specializing in cakes and pastries. Délifrance, however, is a type of French bakery that specializes in French delicacies, which is currently a growing industry in the Philippines. In 2005, Jollibee Food Corporation [] acquired Red Ribbon Bakeshop, wherein Délifrance was acquired in 2006.

Other Acquisition JFC have also acquired other popular fast-food chains outside of the country. Along with its Philippine brands, the company also runs a Chinese fast food chain, Yonghe King, in mainland China, and a popular teahouse chain from Taiwan called Chun Shui Tang (Spring Water Hall). Chun Shui Tang teahouse opened a branch on Shanghai's Huaihai Road on June 30, 2006. In 2007, Jollibee acquired the Chinese fast-food chain Hongzhuangyuan. For more information visit to our site at
