Sydney, Nsw Australia (PressExposure) November 23, 2011 -- 'Hide Run Growl' and 'Open Wide Snap' eBook apps designed for the popular iPad/iPhone were launched by mum of two Fiona Treweeke. Fiona faced the challenge of building her daughter Phoebe's reading confidence, and decided to use the rich platform of the iPad to develop her story books in a way that engaged Phoebe, and other children, to feel confident, happy and keen to read.
The touch word function of the apps makes it easy for children to overcome their anxiety when faced with an unfamiliar word. In addition to this many parents face the additional challenge of getting their children to just 'sit' and read their school home reader after a long day at school. 'With Phoebe it was like trying to nail jelly to the wall' said Fiona.
Encouraging children to read from an interactive platform like the iPad is more like asking your child to play! Thanks to the iPad app which brings learning through play to life, Phoebe has built her confidence and made her school life and home reading a much happier experience. 'Phoebe was asked to be the lead reader in her school assembly last week,' said Fiona. 'Phoebe told me, they picked me because I'm a good reader Mummy!'
Parents want to feel good about passing over the iPhone to children when grabbing a coffee with a friend, at the airport, on long car journeys, cooking dinner, waiting in reception, grocery shopping and the conscientious parent is aware of the need to give their kids apps that provide more than entertainment.
"I developed the eBook to maximise the potential of the interactive platform. The functionality offered by the app is designed to enrich the child's experience and support the educational development of critical early reading skills," said Fiona.
Professionally narrated by Sarah Jane Honeywell, British TV presenter on BBC's CBeebies, both stories offer a fable like quality with effective repetition and rhyme that young children enjoy so much. Designed with 'read to me' and 'read it myself' options the apps span the family and suits the learning abilities of children aged 2-8. Both apps feature words that highlight as they are read aloud and words zoom up the screen when pictures are touched, building confidence and recognition. The beautiful animation, textures, colourful illustrations and rich expression in the narrator's voice will capture children's attention. 'And among all the animation and opportunity to interact, there is a simple story with subtle messages around sharing, trust, friendship and other positive social behaviours," Fiona said.
Open, Wide, Snap is the second storybook app to be released by Kid-estorybooks, and uses the same successful concept of the first title Hide, Run, Growl. Both Books have been a big hit and score well with reviewers http://www.smartappsforkids.com 'Outstanding, I can't think of an ebook I liked this much! Regular followers know that I repeatedly say an app "needs more energy" in my reviews. If you don't know what I mean, try Hide Run Growl. By energy I don't mean animation...I mean an app that make my kids laugh, smile and enjoy themselves. Hide Run Growl does that so well, I've made a list of all the things I like about it - read more Score: 5/5
