Knoxville, Tennessee (PressExposure) January 30, 2008 -- "So often, newcomers to yoga are completely confused when they arrive in a yoga class for the first time," says David Morgan, a Knoxville, TN yoga teacher who has announced a series of yoga classes for complete beginners. Morgan maintains a yoga web site at http://www.yogaknoxville.com.
"New students often get discouraged because they can't 'do' poses they see other students -- perhaps younger, lighter or more experienced students -- doing. Not only that, but inadequately trained teachers can push new students straight towards an injury by encouraging them to do poses their bodies simply aren't prepared for. Yoga is the fastest growing cause of sports injuries in the United States."
"It's time to offer a yoga class for complete beginners. A class that's safe, provides stretching and strengthening as well as relaxation, and that's firmly rooted in the spiritual traditions of yoga. That's what I aim to provide in the February class," remarked Morgan, a Kripalu Yoga Teacher who holds the Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) designation from the Yoga Alliance.
In this "complete beginner" series, participants will gain an understanding of basic yoga philosophy and how to apply it to modern living. Participants will also learn over a dozen yoga asana (poses) in a manner that feels right for their bodies' particular needs, and practice yogic breathing (pranayama) for relaxation, healing, energy and insight.
The health benefits of a regular yoga practice are many. Past participants in Morgan's beginner yoga series have enjoyed weight loss, alleviation of chronic pain, ease of depression symptoms, and increased self-worth as just a few of the many benefits theyâve enjoyed during this gentle series.
Yoga has proven in medical studies to be an effective complementary treatment for conditions as diverse as diabetes, depression, anxiety and fibromyalgia.
Every class in the beginner's series builds on the knowledge from the previous class. In this way, students will delve much more deeply into the experience of yoga and the positive experience of themselves week by week.
This class assumes no prior knowledge of yoga, and participants donât need to be flexible, skinny, or particularly strong to take part.
The beginnerâs yoga series starts February 26, 2008 and meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-7:00pm at Well by Nature through March 20, 2008. The cost of the series is $125.
Payment is required at registration. Register at Well by Nature, 6516 Kingston Pk., Knoxville, TN 37919.
