Lightwater, United Kingdom (PressExposure) September 17, 2009 -- ⢠Survey shows 1 in 3 drivers use video iPod or DVD player while driving ⢠Research reveals 1 in 5 drivers seen accidents or careless driving by drivers watching movies
Top car hire price comparator Carrentals.co.uk has announced research results which show a worrying new trend on the UKâs roads. Many people now risk accidents by watching videos on their iPods while driving.
The car hire companyâs survey showed that as many as 1 in 3 drivers have seen fellow road users watching videos either on an iPod or DVD player while in charge of their vehicle, showing the increase in portable technology use in cars.
Results also revealed that 1 in 5 drivers have seen or observed accidents or careless driving from other drivers watching videos, thereby showing what a danger it can be.
Gareth Robinson, managing director of car hire website Carrentals.co.uk, says: âPeople know all about the most common road dangers like drink driving or driving when you are too tired, but this one was a surprise. Our research shows that driving while watching videos is more common than anybody thought and people need to be aware of the risks.â
âOne respondent fed back about seeing a driver driving along with a video iPod taped to the steering wheel. It beggars belief that any driver would think that this was a way to be in control of their vehicle.â
