San Diego, California (PressExposure) March 29, 2011 -- One of the nation's fastest growing privately-held energy companies, Sullivan Solar Power, today celebrated their recently installed 406,585 Watt solar power system at Long Beach City College's dedication event. The college's greenest state-of-the-art parking structure facility is net zero and feeding surplus energy to nearby buildings on campus.
"Working closely with McCarthy Building Company, we were able to turn what would have been an ordinary parking garage into an extraordinary solar power plant," said Daniel Sullivan of Sullivan Solar Power who designed and installed the system.
Daniel Sullivan was joined by Mayor Bob Foster, Long Beach City College President Eloy Oakley, Southern California Edison, and members of the Long Beach City College community in dedicating the new 295,485-square-foot facility.
"This structure is now the second largest solar project in Long Beach, and will become a sustainable model for other public and private projects in the city," said Mayor Bob Foster.
The solar power system is also the largest community college campus project in the State to participate in the California Solar Initiative program, according the to the Southern California Edison representative. Comprised of 2,100 high-efficiency SANYO solar panels, the solar power system will offset approximately 9% of the facility and multiple adjacent buildings' electricity needs. In addition to dramatic energy bill savings, more than 18.3 million pounds of CO2 emissions will be avoided from the atmosphere over the warranty period on the panels.
"Year after year, the savings from this project will continue to grow as utility rates continue to escalate as a result of our declining supply of cheap fossil fuels, making this project not only environmentally responsible but also fiscally accountable." said Daniel Sullivan.
