Atlanta, GA (PressExposure) July 02, 2014 -- The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (GSCPA) has announced that J. Lowell Mooney, Ph.D., CPA, has been named chair-elect for the 2014-2015 term.
Mooney, a professor of accounting and former director of the School of Accountancy at Georgia Southern University, was elected this month at the Society's Annual Convention in San Francisco, California.
A GSCPA member for the past 26 years, Mooney has a lengthy history of service to The Georgia Society of CPAs. He is a former GSCPA Council and Board of Directors member. He has served as president of GSCPA's Southeast Georgia Chapter and as president of The Educational Foundation, in addition to serving on numerous committees and task forces throughout his professional career.
Mooney is also a Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) and Certified Financial Manager (CFM). He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).
Mooney has received numerous awards for his teaching, research and service activities, including The Georgia Society of CPAs' Outstanding Accounting Educator Award, the Eugene Bishop Award for Sustained Excellence, and the Beta Alpha Psi Outstanding Advisor Award at Georgia Southern University.
Mooney holds a doctorate degree in accounting with a minor in management information systems from the University of Georgia. At Georgia Southern, he teaches accounting principles, management accounting, and accounting information systems at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Mooney brings vast years of experience and knowledge to the post of chair-elect with The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants. He will be a great benefit to the GSCPA as a collective whole.
