MarKim Farms Reveals their Development of a Successful World Class Sporthorse Breeding Program

Carleton, MI (PressExposure) July 12, 2011 -- MarKim Farms was founded in 2000 by Kimberley Ennett and her husband Mark. Ms. Ennett had a lifelong association with horses. In her teens, she was an avid hunter-jumper equestrian rider. After her riding days were over she built her dream horse farm in order to breed champion Sporthorses for dressage and jumping in Carleton, Michigan. This began the era of MarKim Farms, which was named after her husband Mark and herself. From the beginning, their breeding strategy was to find the best bloodlines available.

It began with the acquisition of Liaisonne, a Main Mare Book Oldenburg Star Mare sired by the Oldenburg Five Star Stallion Frohwind (by Furioso II out of Windstille by Weltmeister). Her dam was a thoroughbred mare that was inspected and entered into the Oldenburg Main Mare Book with Premium status. As a result, Liaisonne was a modern Oldenburg of the type that met MarKim Farms' initial breeding goals.

Liaisonne presented three outstanding champion colts:

• Wunderstern, sired by Wradar, was 2004 National USDF Oldenburg/NA All Breeds Sporthorse Champion, Colts/Gelding.

• Impromptu, sired by Ideal****, was 2003 Nationwide All Breeds Champion Oldenburg N.A. Weanling Colt of the Year and Ranked 2nd in the Nation as the Reserve Champion, Horse of the Year for 2003, Sport Horse Colt. He was Grand Champion in the COSEQUIN/USDF East Central Breeders Classic Year End Finals, Colts/Gelding, 0-3 Years Old at the Kentucky Horse Park Finals. Impromptu was also awarded Champion and High Point Score at his Oldenburg NA Inspection in 2003. He was judged a Premium Foal with a score of 8.2!

• Reagan, sired by Riverman****, was awarded Champion and High Point Score at the Oldenburg NA Inspection in 2005. Reagan was judged a Premium Foal with a score of 8.4! This ranked him in the top 5% for over 500 Oldenburg foals inspected in North America.

The Magic Trio

Excellent results so far, but MarKim Farms wanted to aim still higher. They wanted to advance ever higher and breed the bloodlines of the "Magic Trio", the foundation stallions of modern dressage breeding: Rubinstein I, Weltmeyer and Donnerhall. The first step was to find a suitable mare.

They were fortunate to find and purchase Graziella (Rubinstein I/Furioso II), a mare with impeccable bloodlines. She was sired by the legendary Rubinstein I out of the States Premium (SPS) Mare Glaeddis (FuriosoII). Graziella (Grace) was born 1997 and imported from Germany in 2000. They were now on their way.

MarKim Farms bred Graziella to Sagnol (Sandro Hit, Furioso II and Landadel bloodlines). The resulting foal was a filly, San Bella. She was rated Premium and Site Champion at the Oldenburg Inspection in Findlay, Ohio in August, 2007. San Bella followed in the footsteps of their award winning Champion colts: Reagan, Wunderstern and Impromptu.

The Oldenburg Inspection Committee stated that San Bella was of great quality and if born in Germany, she would have been selected for their esteemed Elite Auction in Vechta, Germany. Out of the hundreds of foals born in Germany, only a select few are invited to the auction. San Bella stood up to the best in Germany!

Sadly, they lost Graziella to a foaling injury in 2010. MarKim Farms set about finding another mare that was a direct descendent of either Rubinstein, Weltmeyer or Donnerhall to add to their breeding program.

Fortunately they were able to find one, a mare with a direct bloodline from one of the "Magic Trio". Her name is, interestingly, When World's Unite (Unity) and she is a direct daughter of the highly influential Weltmeyer. Weltmeyer sadly passed away at age 27 due to colic complications on June 28, 2011. MarKim Farms is now very fortunate to have a direct daughter of this legendary stallion and plans to continue to carry on his legacy through her incredible offspring. MarKim Farms is proud to add her to its incredible line-up of broodmares.

Unity has an impressive background. She is a Premium Oldenburg mare with a score of 106 pts! Her foal score was 8.5! She is a very correct, free moving mare. Her foals are expected to be black with very correct conformation and excellent movement.

In 2009 at Dressage at Waterloo, Unity won her ISR/Oldenburg in-hand class with a high score of 80 as judged by Lilo Fore. This was actually the highest score of all mares and fillies shown in all 12 classes. It was also the second highest score of all horses shown in-hand that day in all 17 classes. That same year, at Cincinnati Dressage Traditions, Unity was Reserve Champion Mare and also won the Born in the USA mare award on both days.

Unity's 2010 foal was a black filly by the name of Flower Power (Lily) by Freestyle (Florestan I). Flower Power was awarded Premium foal as well as Overall High Point Site Champion of all Oldenburg foals at the inspection with an overall score of 8.4!! She received an 8.5 for movement!! These scores ranked her in the top 10% of all 2010 Oldenburg NA foals in the Nation.

The Culmination of the Magic Trio

Another step higher in MarKim Farms' breeding program is currently underway. They decided to breed Unity (Weltmeyer) to the impressive stallion, Rubignon (Rubinstein I/Donnerhall/Pik Solo) for a foal in 2012. The resulting foal will now have direct bloodlines to the "Magic Trio".

Rubignon, a black imported 16.2h Oldenburg stallion, was listed for the Swedish Dressage team in 2008 and 2009, and has 17 Grand Prix wins and placings including international wins in his name. He is approved with multiple registries and was tested in Sweden with 9's for his special jumping talent as well. His temperament is superb, true to his sire, "his movement even better than Rubinstein" said Oldenburg Judge Evelin Vollsted during Rubignon's licensing. It is noted that Rubignon's best feature is his incredible mind and rideability. Rubignon was the most popular breeding stallion for SWANA both in 2002 and 2003. He bred the following years in Germany and Sweden where he also had a successful Grand Prix career. Rubignon offers a well rounded dressage pedigree, with proven performance generation after generation. He stamps his offspring with elegant uphill toplines, modern type with long legs, and excellent light springy movement with good lift in front and well carried from behind.

MarKim Farms is quite excited about this cross with their Weltmeyer mare, Unity. What an incredible bloodline combination the resulting foal will have! A wonderful cocktail blend of Weltmeyer, Rubinstein I and Donnerhall all wrapped up into one amazing individual.

So today, they have successfully reached the apex of their breeding program!

The Superhorse

MarKim Farms is also continually adding exceptional broodmares to their program. Not only are they producing old proven bloodlines with generations of success, but they are producing cutting edge modern Sporthorse foals with their new Diamond Hit/Roemer Oldenburg mare, Dubonnet. She recently had an outstanding colt, Quarter Hit by the magnificent stallion, Quaterback. This colt is the TOTAL package and is being raised as a stallion prospect. They will continue to breed Dubonnet to the latest top winning European stallions in order to produce the highly sought after modern Sporthorse of today. MarKim Farms is right at the forefront of the new revolution of the cutting edge modern warmblood Superhorse!

In summary, MarKim Farms specializes in state of the art blending of the oldest time-honored proven champion bloodlines with the cutting edge newest Superhorse blood. Ms. Ennett stated, "We are breeding world class athletes with hundreds of years of proven Sporthorse bloodlines that contributes conformation and temperament to get the job done, blended with today's Superhorse that contributes scope, elasticity, power, thrust, extravagance, suppleness and freedom of movement to produce the ultimate individual."
