As part of Square 2 Marketing's "Growing Green Program." seedling donations are made on behalf of each new client. In March, the company reached a running total of 101 donations, or over 1,010 seedlings. The trees, which are planted through the USDA Forest Service's Plant-A-Tree Program, are distributed across the country in places the government is working to build forests. "This gift symbolizes a growing relationship between our marketing company and our clients," explains Square 2 Marketing's Chief Marketing Officer, Eric Keiles, "and it betters the environment, which affects everyone."
Each year Square 2 Marketing works to add new initiatives to their "Growing Green Program." This quarter's action item was to reduce pollution by minimizing the company's travel. To reach their goal, Square 2 Marketing replaced travel with video conferencing for face-to-face meetings with clients. "An SUV puts out 28 pounds of carbon dioxide for each gallon of gas, and an airplane produces about one pound of carbon dioxide per passenger for each mile in the air," says Mike Lieberman, President of Square 2 Marketing. "By using video conferencing instead of weekly road trips and flights to our clients, our business is eliminating hundreds of thousands of pounds of carbon dioxide from polluting our atmosphere."
The marketing firm has taken great strides to be one of the community's leading green businesses. To promote environmental responsibility, Square 2 Marketing presents each new client with a list of 10 easy steps they can take to reduce global warming. "Education is the first step toward change," said Lieberman. To reduce office waste, a company-wide recycling program was implemented. The firm also eliminated approximately 90% of paper correspondence. Keeping digital files not only conserves countless trees, it saves the agency money and keeps it organized. When Square 2 Marketing moved their offices last year, they equipped the space with lots of energy efficient parts, including motion sensing lighting in each office, single stream recycling and special sun shades.
