Puyallup, Washington (PressExposure) May 11, 2007 -- What is "instruction manual" consulting?
Glad you asked...
When a business owner calls upon the services of a consultant, no matter what specific service needs attention...that business owner wants results, period.
They have already gained knowledge, researched their options, and do not need to be "taught" again what they should be doing to gain the result they seek.
They just want the "short" way to that end result that they seek.
A consultant is supposed to be the shortcut to that result. Unfortunately, there are some consultants out there still operating "old school." They go into a business with the following approach:
"You need to do this, this, this, and this...to get this. Here is an instruction manual to show you the way to do it."
Where the "new school" way of doing things, and the way that clients are counting on, boils down to one word...
Clients do not care about what they need to do to accomplish something within their business...they just "want it done" when they hire a consultant.
So, if you are a business owner...and your looking for a consultant...ask a bunch of questions to the consultant you are considering hiring that center around one methodology:
"How are you as a consultant going to execute what I need done?"
Nothing else matters in the hyper-competitive business world we live in...does it?
