Reid says, "This is about building a sense of self respect and self esteem in Black women. Itâs about showing them how to stand up for what they need to strengthen their already made families. Men canât marry us if they donât know what our needs and terms are.â MYBDD⢠also provides relationship counseling and referrals to a network of relationship therapists.
Reid points out that though MYBDD⢠doesnât only address a Black problem, there needs to be a call for marriage. "It just reflects the need in the community. The facts are the facts and itâs saddening, but weâre here to bring black love back in style," Reid says, noting that almost 70% of out of wedlock births are black children according to the National Institute of Health.
