MassBay Offering Seven Online Programs This Fall

Framingham, MA (PressExposure) July 18, 2013 -- Responding to the demands of today's college student, MassBay Community College announced that they are offering six associate degree programs and one certificate program this fall that can be completed without coming to campus for classes. Dozens of online and hybrid courses are also available this fall semester, which begins September 3rd.

"We are fully aware that online learning is in high demand right now, and we're responding to it," said MassBay President John O'Donnell. "We are proud to offer fully online programs that maintain our stringent standards of quality and affordability, while providing a convenient method for working adults to achieve their academic goals."

MassBay is now offering online Associate in Science Degrees in General Business, Business Administration, and in General Studies. Associate in Arts Degrees are being offered in Liberal Arts and in Liberal Arts: Psychology/Sociology/Anthropology. A Certificate in Management is also now available online, although some proctored exams may be required. Credits earned at MassBay are transferable to many bachelor degree programs around the country.

"We continue to expand our online offerings at MassBay," said Dean of eLearning Dr. Lynn Hunter. "Roughly 30% of our courses can be taken online, and that number will continue to grow. We feel strongly that learning online will continue to be a preferred method of college goers now and into the future, and as a community college we have a mission to be accessible to anyone who is seeking a college education. At MassBay, we believe providing a robust selection of high quality online courses is a critical component of fulfilling that mission."

In addition to the seven online programs, MassBay is offering more than 80 online or blended courses this semester. One blended course, CS-270 Practical Python Programming, is utilizing edX, the world's leading online-learning initiative founded by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Online courses and programs are convenient for working adults and offer the flexibility people need in today's busy society. MassBay's online courses are taught by credentialed MassBay professors who have been trained in teaching online.

MassBay awards associate degrees and certificates in over 70 academic programs in a wide range of career-driven subjects ranging from accounting and automotive technology to forensic DNA science and early childhood education.
