MentorHealth to Present Webinar on "The Healthcare Quality Improvement Act: Achieving Immunity in Your Peer Review Process"

Fremont, California (PressExposure) April 24, 2013 -- This webinar is about the Health Care Quality Improvement Act (HCQIA), which it dissects and discusses in detail. It will talk about the standards that need to be met in order to achieve immunity under this Act. A deep understanding of what HCQIA is and what it means for an organization is necessary because it helps organizations gain a better insight into the quality of the healthcare they provide. There are four standards within this Act that must be adhered to. This session will address all of these issues and give participants an idea of how implementation or otherwise of these standards are viewed by courts. Courts have stated that organizations must take actions to achieve the protections granted by the Act. The following have been given high importance:

o In the reasonable belief that the action was in the furtherance of quality health care
o After a reasonable effort to obtain the facts of the matter
o After adequate notice and hearing procedures are afforded to the physician involved or after such other procedures as are fair to the physician under the circumstances
o In the reasonable belief that the action was warranted by the facts known after such reasonable effort to obtain facts and after meeting the [notice and hearing] requirement
In the process of giving a clear understanding of these; this session will also cover the following areas:
o The Health Care Quality Improvement Act
o Legislative history of the Health Care Quality Improvement Act and the intent of Congress
o Immunity under the Health Care Quality Improvement Act
o Standards required to achieve immunity under the Health Care Quality Improvement Act
o Review of the Health Care Quality Improvement Act by the courts
