Models Direct Profile - Supermodel Lara Stone

Norwich, United Kingdom (PressExposure) September 29, 2009 -- She's got a gap between her front teeth, she's a UK size 10 and will soon be turning 26. On paper she may not seem like high fashion material, especially compared with other models, but Lara Stone has used it all to her advantage, becoming a firm favourite in fashion circles.

Lara was first spotted on the Paris metro when she was just twelve years old. When she was fifteen she entered an Elite Model Look competition, and even though she didn't win the judges were so impressed by her that Elite Model Management snapped her up straight away.

She left school to head in the direction of a modelling career. She had a tough time to begin with but after being taken on by IMG International and opening for Givenchy haute couture her career rocketed. She has walked for Prada, Louis Vuitton and Chanel to name just a few and has had numerous campaigns and covers. In February, Vogue Paris dedicated the whole issue to the supermodel which involved photoshoots directed by some top photographers.

As already mentioned Lara Stone is a size 10, substantially larger than the usual fashion models, and some believe she will help make this a more popular size for designers' shows. Despite being smaller than the average dress size in the UK and America (and no doubt numerous other countries) Lara still feels fat sometimes.

"I am still a woman and a person, and if you're compared and confronted with your colleagues, and they're all half your size, you think, f***, I'm really fat!" Lara admits. "And then on other days, I'm like, oh, I'm not that bad."

The gap in her front teeth could have been deemed a flaw that would have ruined her modelling career, but instead it makes her interesting and gives her character. Another trait is her wobbly runway walk. The supermodel has smaller feet than the sample size shoes so walking must be a bit tricky!

There are some people who don't understand the hype, but her success shows no sign of slowing down.

As fashion blog Fashionologie puts it, Lara's "pretty good for 'a girl who under any other circumstance would have been found to be 'too big' or 'too... umm mature' to fit into the [modeling] standard."
